Many of us amp up our activity level in the summer time! At Caspers Chiropractic, we believe that it is important to “Keep Moving” and summer makes movement easy! But, watch out for some of these summer activities that may worsen back pain or cause injury.
Take Special Precaution with these Summer Activities
Sporting Events – Who doesn’t love a good baseball game or soccer competition? Watching sports in the summer is a favorite activity for many families, but beware of bleacher or stadium seating that is not supportive and can encourage bad posture.
Amusement Parks & Adventurous Sports – Standing in line and walking for hours at an amusement part can strain your back. Be sure to bring good walking shoes and choose your rides carefully, especially if you have had a back or neck injury before. Strenuous rides and activities can also cause back and neck pain.
Gardening – When it comes to gardening and yard work, proper posture and stretching before you begin is key. Digging, tilling, and harvesting your garden can cause muscle stress if you have bad posture. Take frequent breaks and pay attention to proper lifting techniques.
Sleeping – In the summer, our schedules often change which also affect our sleeping patterns. We may find ourselves sleeping more away from our own bed, if we are vacationing or camping. Higher temperatures and humidity levels may also affect our quality of sleep. Take extra effort to stick to a healthy sleep routine with bedroom temperatures cooler if possible.
Travel – Summer road trips make awesome memories. But it can also be hard on your body to sit for an extended period of time. If you are traveling, whether in a car or airplane, take time to stand up and stretch whenever you can.
Whatever you choose to do, make it fun! Get outside and keep moving to feel your best! Here are some tips for having a healthy and fun summer. If you are a golfer, we also have some pre-golf stretches that you can do to warm up and prevent injuries.
Keep Moving! Motion is Life.
